When I first started ministry, I was working as a youth pastor at a local church in Australia. My job was to lead young people to Jesus and that included doing Bible studies with them at home and during Sabbath school classes.

So I went to the local ABC to buy Bible study sets that I could use. I tried all different kinds. But the experience was always the same…

…young people would tune out, zone out, or struggle to connect.

The studies available where well designed, but for a different generation. They answered questions these young people were not asking. They used graphics that made them cringe. They used outdated words they couldn’t understand.

And things got even harder when I started giving Bible studies to young people who had never been to church or read a Bible. The traditional sets we’re so out of touch with their lived experience, I spent more time trying to explain words, terms, and assumptions that I did actually exploring scripture.

Thats when I realized something had to change.

I asked God for help. I prayed for a resource that was simple, accessible, but meaningful…

For a Bible study set that was more focused on falling in love with Jesus than on proving a set of doctrines…

And for a study guide that would not only convince young people about Bible truth - but would also fill their hearts with passion for walking with God in this generation.

And God answered! But he didn’t answer the way I thought he would. Rather than pointing me to a resource, he led me to create one from scratch.

And thats what I did. For five long years I wrote, edited, used, then edited some more. I studied with skeptics, postmoderns, and confused church kids. We wrestled with questions, doubts, and scripture. And after five years, I had in my hands a whole Bible study journey that was not only simple and accessible…

…young people were telling me that it was actually shifting their entire worldview for Jesus.

I realized at that moment that I couldn’t keep this set to myself. I had to share it with others!

And shortly after that, “The Road: A Journey Through the Narrative of Scripture” hit the Amazon bookshelves.
